Copyrights

Copy Righting? This is a serious matter, we as instructors, and also as people in general, run into on a daily bases. It seems so much easier and cheaper to get a program, a song or even a photo, etc. for free, instead of buying from a rightful owner, or producer. We must instruct our students, on the right and wrongs of using other peoples published information. We need to show them how to find legal information and how to source the information. We respect copy rights and fair use rules, because it is not our infomation to be giving out, it is illegal and a crime. The guidelines are posted for people to abide by for a reason.
Online safety is important, we need to teach our student that bullying at school, home or online is all the same. It can be life threatening, and life altering. Bullying is a wrong doing and it is also illegal, to an extent. Online safety guidelines help teachers instruct their students about bullying and the safety of the ones being bullied. There are programs that most schools have that help protect students. You can also, limit a student online activities, and block out many sites that online predators have access too. By doing so it will help protect your students and yourself from these predators. It will also allow you to see what your students are actually doing online.
This week I learned quite a bit of information on copy rights and fair use rules. When I was reading on the site "The Educators' Lean and Mean No FAT guide to Fair Use", I realized how serious it was when someone copyrights something. Some of it is a little over the edge, but I will defiently be more cautious when using certain materials in my classroom. I was a little confused on certain things but then I checked out the "Cheat Sheet", which helped in clarification on many things. When gathering material for my lessons and programs, I will go the right way. But contacting the head of the program I am intending on using and going from there, or finding it online at a website where the program can be legally purchased. Is it right for students to use information online, for a project if they can't find a source?
Fair use and online safety, is a serious matter. Everyone needs to know what is right and wrong for them to use online. If you are unsure you need to ask someone, or investigate where the information came from, don't use it unless you can get it legally. I took the quiz twice, I was suprised at how bad I did. What I originally thought was okay, wasn't. I was actually shocked the most about a video store rewarding 1 free rental for perfect attendance, I thought that was okay. Its like a parent giving their child allowance for making good grades. As a child when rewarded for doing good, we tend to constantly do good for the reward, but as stated on the qiuz its not right to reward a child for doing good, why?
I am hoping this all posted right my computer froze and I had issues opening this page back up!

Post on Web 2.0, WebQuest, & Chapter 4

This is my first time blogging. I have always been pretty good with computers, or so I thought. So, after reading chapter four, visiting web quest(in the case of web construction garden quest was used), and also web 2.0. I realized there is a lot more to computers, or the internet.
Chapter four provided a lot of insight on different ways technology can be in a classroom or even just out in the world. It showed several different types of web pages that could be provided to your students to help them, like Poetry Forge
I cannot really mention what reinforced me, because what I knew was no where close to what I gained from this reading and the websites. I will use Power Point projects, and Writing assignments. I will show my students ways to design outlines to write their paper. I will begin by having the student pick a topic, then brainstorming the idea, structure the story, prepare the text that will be used, editing the text, and negotiating meaning of any of the tasks. I will have the student get into small groups and read each others papers, and share thought. In most schools in my area there are not a lot of computers, but I will also attempt to show my students how to use the internet to Blog or open discussion over a topic. I think that this will allow students to have an open mind.
I am hoping I did this Blog right.
(http://www.poetryforge.org), it offers tools to support creative writing. It explains way to show/help your student be more creative in their writing. I really didn’t know to much about using links to provide information, to both me and my students. As mentioned before I normally used Google to provide my information. I also gained information from Garden Quest, I looked through several different programs, and there were some really neat projects, and subjects to discuss. Some of them, have made me look forward to having my own classroom and assigning these projects, just to see the students responses.
